In God We Truss – A look at Roof Trusses in Churches Around the world

Roof Trusses are a fantastic element of architecture and are often used as a reliable and aesthetically pleasing support for roofing systems. Wood truss installations are sometimes left exposed as feature trusses – after all they are so amazing to look upon. They also give some insight into the construction, design and indeed character of the building.

The Truss of the River – Tarnow, Poland

This modernist, minimalistic church in Tarnow, Poland is in some ways more truss than church! The wood is left naked and bare, which helps when showing off the earthy, elegant nature of the material. The small wooden church was built high on the bank of the Vistula River in the small and quaint village of Tarnow, it was built by a private investor. The church serves as a place of quiet contemplation and prayer for the local community and is constructed entirely from wood; this is permitting its single glass wall. This window is the background of the altar. Within here you can find peace and serenity by looking out through the window to the river and beyond, over to the horizon.

A Truss in Nature – Sainte Genevieve Chapel, France

At the heart of Lorraine National Park, the Sainte Genevieve chapel can be found through the hiking trails near the riverside of Meuse. A natural site at which the forest remains as the main aesthetic feature. This is aside from this magnificently overlaid truss which supports the roof of this small but handsome building. After fire damage the chapel was compromised in its integrity therefore the truss renovations took place in order to support it with a new dense, repetitive wooden frame. The result is a beautiful pattern. Today the chapel is used for prayer, activities or a shelter for weary hikers.

A New England Truss – Saint Michael Church in Pawcatuck Connecticut, USA

Following the main sanctuary of the 130 year old roof system of a classic New England church, Father Perkins wisely contacted some engineers and architects to help out. It was decided to take down the old walls and roof to the foundations and rebuild from there. Using Douglas fir timber, the team constructed some graceful arched beams which would serve as the new support for the roofing system. This is a classic ‘hammer beam roof’. The result is a gigantic, elegant church building.

Truss of the Angels – St Mary – St Catherine of Siena Parish, USA

This historic Roman Catholic parish in Charlestown, Massachusetts is the result of a merger of two separate parishes. The building itself is one of the masterpieces of architect Patrick Keely who built it between 1887 and 1893. Its ornate interior boasts stained glass windows and a hammer beam oak ceiling. This includes some intricate angels that were carved by Keely himself. This is really something to behold as these trusses feature stunning attention to detail and intricate designs and patterns worked into it.

The St Catherine’s building is a Romanesque design which was completed in 1895, closed in 2008. The brick building is a well-known landmark visible from the Tobin Bridge.

Concrete Worktops – The Unique Addition to your Home

Run-of-the-mill materials aren’t exciting designers anymore. Polished concrete worktops are on the rise; with the need for individually crafted pieces steadily increasing. The natural qualities it possesses allow for each piece to be completely individual; the subtle differences are a distinct feature.

The time of granite and quartz has come to a somewhat grinding halt; too shiny, too formal and too common. Polished concrete worktops offer an irreplaceable flair. The ability to look natural, whilst maintaining the character and encapsulating a visual texture not available from other materials.

With the other solid surfaces used in worktops, you’re stuck with that slab of material. However, with polished concrete there are endless possibilities with the decorative elements, the sky is the limit. Polished concrete worktops; they are organic, filled with human nature and ambition. Whilst other worktop surfaces promise perfection; the faults and highlights of the concrete set it apart. The individual elements create something unique.

Polished Concrete Worktop

Concrete has elevated from a mere commodity and has evolved into a distinct art form. Polished concrete provides a beautiful and contemporary substitute for architectural products and surfaces.

From the moment of design conception, each piece is lovingly created and handcrafted to the absolute highest standards. The main aim is to provide a durable, functional concrete worktop that is capable of outliving its owners.

Concrete countertops can be straight, curved, notched, and multi-level. The restrictions once applied to worktops, has no place here. The versatility offered with concrete worktops is unparalleled; designers and consumers alike all rave about concrete’s talent to become any shape and practically any colour required. The classic shiny worktop look has begun to drop off in the past few years; concrete offers a beautiful matt finish which has become increasingly popular.

Concrete Worktop

Although concrete worktops can take more maintenance than other options on the market, the end result is worth the effort. Applying a sealer regularly will aid in preserving the worktop. Even after years of heavy use, the concrete will maintain its radiant glow. However, some of the natural wear and tear can increase the colour pigmentation of the concrete, allowing a different element from the material to highlight itself.

Durable and still functional, with a hint of elegance.

About Your Hardwood Floor: Cleaning, Maintenance – and Protecting Against Pet Urine

Cleaning a hardwood floor

What’s so hard about caring for hard wood? Well, due to the raw nature of this natural material, it’s extremely reactive – for that reason special care and attention has to be paid to it. If certain substances are exposed to it over time it can have serious consequences, to give you a hand with this we have made a little .

Dust your floors every day with a microfibre mop or swifter. These trap dirt particles, pet hair and other various household allergens with static electricity. Microfibre mop pads are more effective than sweeping with a broom. They’re also safer, since some broom bristles can actually scratch a floor’s surface.

When dusting with a microfibre mop, lift it of the floor as little as possible so that dirt can stay trapped on the pad.

Vacuum once a week with a soft-bristle floor brush attachment. Dust the floor with a microfiber mop before beginning. If you leave a lot of debris on the floor when you vacuum – this can scratch the floor surface. After using the microfibre pad, carefully vacuum the floor using the floor brush attachment.

Pay special attention to the vacuum wheel that can scratch the woods surface if you aren’t careful.

Hardwood Cleaner

Use a hardwood floor cleaner once a month, use the damphead mop with a microfibre head – don’t damped it with water – instead mist the mop head with a specially designed cleaner for hardwood. Use the minimum amount of cleaner required.

Cleaning Pet Urine – Dogs and Cats

YIKES! The dog pee pee-d on the hardwood floor! What is one to do?

Not to worry, we have put together this article in how best to care for a hardwood floor in a manner that will mean that it will last as long as possible.

If the dog went to the toilet on the floor, then start by wasting no time, blot up as much urine as you can with a paper town. Wipe from outside to the centre – this avoids spreading the moisture out.

Wipe it Up!

Once it’s wiped up, try blotting up the remaining spillage with a damp paper towel.

Sprinkle Baking Soda

Next up, sprinkle a generous helping of baking soda on the spot, soaking it up more effectively.

Allow the baking soda you have spread over the place to sit for several hours – or even overnight. The next day use a vacuum cleaner to suck up the residue. In order to avoid damaging the wooden floor, make use of a soft brush attachment to the vacuum.

Stain Remover

Now, if there is a discoloured area, soak it with an enzyme based stain remover. Be sure to choose a stain remover that is safe for hardwood floors. It’s also a good idea to test the cleaner first in an inconspicuous area – like inside a closet to make sure that it won’t stain the floor.

Follow the labels instructions – and blot up the excess.

Dog Safe Cleaner Finish!

When it’s clean – clean the floors with a dog-safe cleaner

If you act fast you can halt or limit all damage to your floor – hardwood isn’t the cheapest, so if you can preserve this you will likely be extremely pleased!

The same rules apply for oak internal doors Cheshire, if your animal likes to urine vertically – as they often do!

Solar Roofing – Renewability from the Future!

Elon Musk’s Solar Powered Roofing in North Wales?

The automotive company and brainchild of ‘business magnet’ Elon musk has produced the best looking solar panels ever created. Just take a look at these – they look completely real.

Is roofing North Wales going to have a revolution pretty soon?

The idea is that ugly looking solar panels strapped to the roof are not only a bit hard on the eye, but also not the most efficient. What if the tiles of your house themselves had in-build solar cells? That way the whole top portion of your house would be covered in solar panels! Your entire roof would BE a solar panel!

Could solar panels on roofs be a thing of the past?

This is created with tesla solar glass!

Solar roof integrates with the Powerwall home battery which allows you to have a reliably charged power source allowing you to power your entire house – in the event of a power outage you would comfortably be protected from any inconvenience that your neighbours may suffer.

With the UN’s recent damning report of the world’s climate change disaster, we need to be al pitching together and making every little change possible in order to prevent catastrophe, and it may just be innovations like this which set us on the righteous path.

Now Elon’s roofing might not be affordable for the vast majority of us right now, but some years down the line – who knows? It could be common place to have personal solar powered roofing system which power’s your house.

Some of these tiles are even designed to look like slate.

These tiles come with an ‘infinity warranty’ which mean that they are guaranteed to last the entire lifetime of your house (or infinity – whichever comes first).

These tiles are even designed to withstand the blast of hailstones much more than traditional roof tiles, an exciting animation shows a 5cm hailstone blasting towards a set of traditional towers, which are subsequently shattered into pieces, the Tesla solar glass on the other-hand doesn’t even budge, the material holding firm against the onslaught.

Tesla are able to provide this roofing to a number of different countries, and personally oversee the removal, replacement and reconfiguration of the roofless, as well as setting it up seamlessly with the in-house batteries.

Elon musk recently mentioned that he had this very same tiling system on his own home!

A ‘solar roof’ surely this is for the future? Nope it’s for the present!

We now have several hundred homes with the Solar Roof on them, and that’s going well. It takes a while to just confirm that the Solar Roof is going to last for 30 years and all the details work out,” Musk said on Tesla’s Q2 earnings call in August.

For those of us who just want a reliably built roofing north wales, with locally sourced welsh slate or other finely made materials you can always go to a traditional roofing company until the time is right where this kind of technology is commonplace.

You REALLY need to see what can be done with the magic of the ‘crete. Let’s begin by addressing the common misconceptions. Concrete worktops today are installed to they look akin to natural stone. The Perfect Kitchen Door

Fitted kitchens in Bangor are the perfect place to install quality home improvement innovations and modern kitchen designs. However, finding the perfect door for your brand new kitchen is not always an easy task. So here we have compiled a short list of quality kitchen door styles below to get your design cogs moving!

Lacquer remains one of the top choices when it comes to luxury kitchens, despite there being an advance in cheaper materials which imitate it. Its high quality and luxurious professional finish is what justifies the cost of this material. Lacquer doors have numerous coats applied to them, yet all vary from one another depending on whether they have been treated on one or both sides. However, it is not a material which is easily restored due to the multitude of colour choices available and the intense shine it provides. Incidentally, this type of door is available in matt, metallic, sating and other finishes and is scratch-resistant which provides an additional quality feature.

Specialists know how to tell a lacquered door from a laminate one, but do you? Laminate doors’ side edges are banded with more or less discretion, however new laser band machines that manufacturers are beginning to use, make it harder to spot the difference. This is especially difficult to try and differentiate between a lacquered gloss and a high gloss laminate, where the latter has been manufactured using this new equipment. What is certain however is these materials, which are available in a variety of finishes, are resistant to abrasion and knocks, plus they are proving to be less prone to scratches than lacquer.

Due to the manufacturing process, the edges of polymer doors are coated in such a way that they closely resemble lacquered doors. However, some say that polymers suffer from too much heat and age which makes them the less popular door type to opt for when designing your kitchen.

Acrylic doors are better known by some as super high gloss laminates and have the appearance of glass. The benefit to acrylic doors as opposed to lacquered for example, is they are very easy to maintain which makes for an ideal door choice for your kitchen. The downfall to this type of door however, is the range of colours available is limited. These doors are manufactured by adding a layer of acrylic film to layers of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS); a polymer thermoplastic with a good impact resistance, which is relatively rigid, lightweight and can also be moulded. They are then assembled by thermo bonding onto an MDF panel.

If you have any questions regarding the types of doors available at reliable kitchen designers in your area, then do not hesitate to get in touch with their dedicated team who are more than happy to assist with any of your queries.

Industrial Flooring That Lasts

One of the most common questions that an industrial flooring installation company will be asked is, “how long will my new flooring last?” Due to the extensive range of epoxy resin flooring and other floor systems that are available and designed for specific working environments, operations and facilities, it makes it rather difficult to provide a single answer to that question. The lifespan of resinous flooring can range from just two yeas to fifteen years, depending completely on the environment in which the floor will be used, the traffic in the area and the type of flooring system installed.

It is quite common for the needs and requirements of the building owner to be taken into consideration, as the quality of an industrial floor can be determined on the length of time the floor is required from a business. Shorter term protection can be accommodated into buildings that are being leased for only a short amount of time, or alternatively, a floor can be installed with the intention of lasting a decade or more. However, the reality is that the working environment will determine the floors outcome.

Protecting your floors surface is the key factor of industrial floor installation. The longevity of your floor is dependent on its continuous adhesion to the floor below. A strong bond with the floor and surface protection can be easily reduced by dust, moisture dirt or oils that have been left behind. An experienced installation company will have the skill and knowledge to prevent any unwanted substances being left behind that reduces your industrial floors’ lifespan. Here are some other key things to look out for:

  • Fresh concrete must be sufficiently cured and moisture-free to ensure an efficient bond with the surface protection layer.
  • Any curing compounds should be avoided as they can prevent the success of adhesion between the floor and the surface protection layer.

Should you require further information on industrial flooring systems that last; a reliable and experienced industrial flooring installation company in your area will be happy to provide you with as much information as you require. Simply get in touch today to discover more about epoxy resin industrial flooring.

What to Look for in a Roof?

Has the Roofer done a good job?

We all love a good roof, whether it is decadent with the most colourful of tiles or armoured with handsome and simple clear cut tiling – we all know that a roof is a roof… is a roof, right?.
However, what on earth makes a good roof, and how would one differentiate this from a bad roof? Well, never fear as I will guide you through several points to consider on the quality of the crowning piece of any house or structure. For roof repair, we recommend getting in touch with Roofers North Wales.

A roof is incredibly important – it’s all that is standing between you and any vertical assault from the elements. And as such over timer it can be worn down by natural wear and tear. Never fear, as this blog is dedicated to the education and assistance of our reader’s in-home care.

How old is the rooftop? The first and foremost factor in checking out how old a rooftop is to check the overall integrity of the roof, stand from a distance and investigate a number of factors. Firstly, check to see if it’s mould free, make sure that the roof is perfectly even and that there are no irregular bulges or curry sections.

Look for worn out spots to see if any of the shingles are missing. If you see these deformities it indicates that the roof is quite old. This isn’t necessarily such a huge issue, however, you need to check that it hasn’t been negatively affected in any way. Ask the homeowner about the lifespan of the roof. Roofs are commonly made from the composite shingles, which help the roof last for a considerably longer time with minimal difficulties. Different materials will have different properties.

A good ventilation system is a key to success when it comes to roof checking If the house you’re thinking of buying has a wonderful gleaming roof on top, if the ventilation mechanism is fired then you’re looking at a ticking time bomb ready to fail.

A good ventilation system that allows sunlight and air to come in easily and do their thing is a must, these two things should not be neglected when buying a house.

Investigate the draining system and the guttering along the roof, a good way to do this is to get up there yourself, or better yet hire a drone North Wales to come and carry out a survey for you, you could also leave it to the experts., A seepage system involves downspouts gutters and drainage pipes. While checking these, look for asphalt shingle grains thoroughly because the small grains that coasts shingles are responsible for shielding the shingles from the obliterating beams of sunlight.

Look for breaks and leaks. Leaking is a killer when it comes to house-care. It plays a vital role in the slow dilapidation of the house. Leaking can harm just about every aspect of a house, it mainly happens in the valleys, plumbing and roofing leaks and can come out to play when it rains heavily. You need to get hold of professional Roofers North Wales to find a leak and repair it.
